Statement Game

The ballgame against the Twinson May 15, 2009 in the Bronx ended in traditional Yankee fashion, a walk-off hit from the Milkman Melky Cabrera. After a sluggish start from Phil Hughes and being down 3-0 it almost felt like here we go again, but we got a much needed boost from the captian Derek Jeter. The biggest spark tonight came from Brett Gardner and Melky. Gardner had the first ever inside-the-park HR in the new Yankee Stadium, that seemed to spark the crowd and also the team. After that hit it felt as if we were gonna come back and win this much needed victory. With the Red Sox losing again and the Yankees winning the Bombers are climbing up the ladder in the AL East and how about Mark Teixeira, I know he is barely hitting above .200 but he had some big at bats tonight and came through in the clutch as well as A-Rod drawing 3 walks. I know he struck out with the bases loaded in the 3rd but he also did his job by getting on base. Hopefully this is the beginning of good things to come. GO BOMBERS
He Does It Again!

Alex Rodriguez started his 2009 baseball season the way young kids dream, he hit the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a 3 run bomb. Do you think the Yankees need Alex? I think the swing speaks for itself. This was the first lead, yes the FIRST lead the Yankees had since Saturday (5/2) in the first inning. CC pitches a complete game shut out as the Yankees defeat the Orioles in Baltimore. Oh ya one more thing, after A-Rod hit the bomb the whole stadium was standing up cheering for him, oh and by the way they were in BALTIMORE. Tell me baseball doesn’t need A-Rod, they are a match made in media heaven. This may be exactly what the Yankees need, the season is about to turn around. Yankee fans do you think A-Rod is the missing piece? Last thing, Girardi still needs the boot. See ya Joe!!!!
What a Start

A-Rod in the News Again
by Steve - posted Thursday, March 5th, 2009
Just when we thought the beginning of spring training was going to be a good situation, A-Rod is the headliner AGAIN. Rodriguez has a torn labrum in his right hip along with a cyst. Just so we are clear this injury has NOTHING to do with his steroid admission last month. While A-Rod is a major part of this team, Joe Girardi will have to begin to prepare for the beginning of the upcoming season without A-Rod. Also, Rodriguez will not be able to play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. The New York Yankees are a very deep team and I think they could be ok and they are going to take a conservative approach to this injury. Surgery is still in the picture but we will have to wait and see what doctors say. The biggest key for the Yankees I believe will be playing as a UNIT, not individuals. Stay with Yankeescast for new details on A-Rod’s injury and the New York Yankees.

Alright Yankee fans. After a disappointing end to last season and not making the playoffs, here we go again as we begin the quest for the 27th championship in team history. Alex Rodriguez is in the news again, this time about steroids, and oh by the way the Yankees also spent some coin in the offseason. I had a chance to sit down with the biggest Yankee fan I know, JT the Brick and we talked about A-ROD, and also the status of the team for this upcoming season. Listen to episode 57 and here what JT has to say. Stay with Yankeescast all season long for the latest news and notes on the New York Yankees. Let us know what you think about the Yankees chances this year.
Bring on CC
by Steve - posted Wednesday, December 10th, 2008
The New York Yankees have FINALLY received some much needed help on the mound by reportedly signing starter CC Sabathia to a record 7-year, $161 million dollar contract.
This is the largest contract ever offered to a pitcher, even more than Johan Santana was given last year by the Mets. The deal is all but done and CC needs to pass a physical. We will bring you all the details once they become available.

Free Agents

This is always a fun time of year, especially for the Yankees. I love to see how much money the ownership is willing to shell out to make this team better. Last season we missed out on Johan Santana, would he have been the difference in the Bombers making the playoffs? No one can really say for sure. I can’t speak for any other Yankees fans but I know I was upset that not much was done last off season. With that being said, this winter needs to exceed all expectations. The acquisition of Nick Swisher is good, but is that the bat we are looking for? I think we need more. I think Girardi should play Swisher in center and rotate him with either Brett Gardner OR Melky Cabrera not both. Maybe it is time to part ways with Bobby Abreu and move Gardner of Cabrera to right. Then that still leaves a void for a full-time first baseman. Mark Teixeira would be a perfect fit. He is young and has a lot of pop in his bat. Going into a new stadium the Yankees need to open their pockets as wide as they can, pull out the wads of cash and give it all away. What does it matter; they are going to make it all back anyway, and then some.
Now for pitching, CC is the #1 priority for this team, and one more quality starter to go with Wang, Hughes and Joba. Since Mike Mussina has retired I would hope they might make an offer to Andy Pettitte. I have said it time and time again that starting pitching is what holds this team back down the stretch and into October. It’s almost a fresh start moving into a new stadium so let’s make the moves necessary to get back to October and winning championships.
Let’s Move On

Another disappointing year in the Bronx. I had to wait until everything sunk in to write this. I am TIRED of the lackluster seasons. The New York Yankees tried to use young pitchers this season, and it will NOT work again. Don’t get me wrong, at the end of the 2007 season they all looked good. That was then and this is now, missing the playoffs for the first time since 1993. If you want to point blame, I blame the owners. I think the first step to the downfall was letting Joe Torre go, look at him now! Things need to change as we head into the new stadium, we need some new faces in the locker room, but the question is will we shell out the money to bring some quality names in here? WE BETTER. The Yanks are shaving 86 million off of the payroll with the like of Jason Giambi and Bobby Abreu not coming back. Those two make 21 and 16 million respectively. So much can be done with that kind of money. AJ Burnett, CC Sabathia just to name a few. I think the offense is ok we need to shore up our pitching staff. I sound like a broken record, oh ya be we say that EVERY YEAR. It gets old after a while. Now that Brian Cashman has a new deal, we can go out and spend money. Lets make this offseason a productive one and put a winning product on the field. Oh and by the way: GO RAYS!!!!
The Curtain is Lowering
by Steve - posted Sunday, September 21st, 2008
We all knew the final game at Yankee stadium would some day be here, but we never knew how it would make us feel. Whether you like the Yankees or not, you have to admit that this stadium is a very special place. Not only home to the Yankees, the NY football Giants played there, concerts, boxing matches, and 3 vistis by Pope’s. I have been to the House that Ruth Built twice and both times I have left in awe. The Yankees are 1-1 when I have been but you just feel the history walking through the halls and seeing all the championship banners and momument park gets better each time, although nothing changes. As the curtain come down for the final time tonight after the game against the orioles, their are so many memories within those walls. What are some of your favorite memories of Yankee Stadium. Email us and let us know and we will rellive some on our next episode of Yankeescast. I will talk to you after the final out is recorded in the “House that Ruth Built”.
