This is always a fun time of year, especially for the Yankees. I love to see how much money the ownership is willing to shell out to make this team better. Last season we missed out on Johan Santana, would he have been the difference in the Bombers making the playoffs? No one can really say for sure. I can’t speak for any other Yankees fans but I know I was upset that not much was done last off season. With that being said, this winter needs to exceed all expectations. The acquisition of Nick Swisher is good, but is that the bat we are looking for? I think we need more. I think Girardi should play Swisher in center and rotate him with either Brett Gardner OR Melky Cabrera not both. Maybe it is time to part ways with Bobby Abreu and move Gardner of Cabrera to right. Then that still leaves a void for a full-time first baseman. Mark Teixeira would be a perfect fit. He is young and has a lot of pop in his bat. Going into a new stadium the Yankees need to open their pockets as wide as they can, pull out the wads of cash and give it all away. What does it matter; they are going to make it all back anyway, and then some.
Now for pitching, CC is the #1 priority for this team, and one more quality starter to go with Wang, Hughes and Joba. Since Mike Mussina has retired I would hope they might make an offer to Andy Pettitte. I have said it time and time again that starting pitching is what holds this team back down the stretch and into October. It’s almost a fresh start moving into a new stadium so let’s make the moves necessary to get back to October and winning championships.
